This is a beautiful collection of small crystalline gold specimens. These spectacular pieces were all found by a prospector using a metal detector at Rye Patch, Nevada.

For those who don't know, Rye Patch is a famous mining district in Pershing County, Nevada near Majuba Mountain. Not only is the area exceptionally rich, but it is also know for producing chevron gold specimens like these in the video.

Metal detecting is the most popular mining method used to find nuggets in this area, but drywashing can also be productive if a rich concentration of gold is located.

Most of the gold nuggets found today are relatively small because the area has been hunted so hard over the past few decades, but occasionally a nice chunk is still found. Minelab metal detectors are a favorite here, but sensitive VLF detectors like the Fisher Gold Bug will also produce nice nuggets.
